December 11, 2003 Getting it right
Who says big companies can't succeed by doing the right thing? Consider ASDA, the UK supermarket owned by Walmart. A very successful business also rated the best place to work by the Financial Times. Their People Director says
A job should be about a sense of belonging, having fun and being given the chance to balance work and family commitments... ASDA was neither a great business nor a great place to work in the early 90s. We were an overstretched company on the edge of bankruptcy... Archie (Norman, the boss) built recovery around our people and the next decade saw us making ASDA a great place to work because we knew it would then be a great place to shop...I've blogged more on this at Mutual Marketing. permalink Comments:
